Joseph Hall is a theoretical physicist and data scientist. His research focuses on energy transport and confinement in fusion plasmas. Anomalous transport governed by highly nonlinear, turbulent processes, taking place at several scales, lies at the heart of this topic. His dissertation determines macroscopic relations to the energy confinement time, an essential parameter to maximize to achieve reactor-scale burning plasmas. He utilizes advanced statistical methods integrated with theoretical models and simulations to disentangle the multicollinearity in the problem.
